Here are 8 unique chairs that will fit in different areas of your home.
01 Adirondack Chair
Thomas Lee designed the first Adirondack Chair in 1903 as an outdoor chair for his summer home in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Originally made of 11 flat wooden boards, the chair had a straight back and wide armrests, perfect for a tranquil garden space!
02 X-Chair
Originating in medieval Italy, X-Chairs were known by several other names, including Savonarola, Scissor, or Dante Chairs, and quickly spread throughout Renaissance Europe. These chairs had an X-shaped frame, were made of walnut, and were usually foldable. Later variations of the chair continued with shapes that made the chair look foldable, even though they were not.
03 Plantation Chair
During colonial rule, the British used the easy chair on their plantations in India, a perfect fusion of an Eastern and Western chair. These spacious and comfortable chairs were perfect for balconies and felt very relaxing, especially with the extensions that let you stretch your feet.
04 Oriental (Ming) Chair
Drawing inspiration from the late Ming period (1368-1644), considered by many to be the golden age of Chinese furniture, the Oriental chair, or Ming chair with its characteristic horseshoe-shaped backing, was designed to please the eye and increase comfort.
05 Rocking Chair
Originally used in gardens, rocking chairs first appeared in England in 1725. The gentle rocking motion is often seen as synonymous with parenting, relaxing the body and providing a better night's sleep!
06 Balloon Chair
Also known as the Queen's Chair, Porter's Chair, or Versailles Dome Chair, these chairs were used in medieval England and France. They were placed at the front gate of an estate for use by a gatekeeper or concierge who was responsible for checking in visitors. These chairs with domed canopies can help keep users relatively warm due to the cool breeze near the front door!
07 Swivel Chair
The swivel chair was inspired by the English Windsor chair, which is said to have been invented by Thomas Jefferson. It is believed that he was sitting in a swivel chair when he drafted the U.S. Declaration of Independence in 1776! Today, swivel chairs and stools are commonly used in offices and bars.
With creativity and talent, many skilled artists have transformed ordinary chairs into uniquely styled pieces of furniture. The unique and artistic style of these chairs makes them a very popular part of modern decor!
